How does one write a poem about someone or something they love? Every time I try to write a poem for my girlfriend I either can’t find the words, the adjectives/metaphors I use are too week to properly describe how I feel about her. When I do hammer something out it sounds like something written by someone else. Can anyone help me or am I that useless?
How to write a poem without it sounding week or like someone else’s work?

If you do not have confidence in your work then it will sound fake or like someone elses
Just put your heart into it, be specific then it will sound like your own work
For example
Unconditional love
Love me forever
Limiting restrictions
Undying hope
Burning fire
Raging in my heart.
Can you feel me?
I feel you
You are here
Inside me
Deep within my heart
Always.
Your smile
Your laugh
Your eyes
Your touch
I feel it all
I see it all.
I close my eyes
And feel you near
My heart breaks
My soul cries
But through it all
You are here.
Risk it all
All for you
Risk it all
All for me.
The risk of losing
Losing you
The risk of hurting
Hurting me
The risk of breaking
Breaking hearts
The risk of killing
Killing souls.
I’ll risk it all
All for you
No matter what
Don’t think twice
Hope beyond hope
And never let me go.

Your going about this all wrong dude. Poetry is waiting to burst out of you. From the minute your pen hits the page it should feel effortless. Than you can reread it and fix all the errors and problems. But the poem itself, the very heart of it flows out of you.
You are trying way to hard. You came into poetry with the intent of "writing a poem about my girlfriend." You have already started with two many rules. Just have a core feeling, or a really rough image, or a distinct memory and just let yourself write, if it comes out crap, relax an start over with a completely new core feeling.
Also remember you should enjoy writing each piece, even the crappy ones. If you dont, you know you’ve made poetry that wont truly sound like you.
