A ball python can easily eat pinky rats from the day it hatches. I start mine off on pinky rats and quickly move them to fuzzy rats. Pinky mice are too small for a ball python and are a waste of time, unless you don’t want your ball python to grow.
pinky rats are fetal rats that have no hair and are about 2inches long they come frozen most of the time and you dip them in chicken broth to entice your python. had a boa that ate them at 5mths.
Patrick,
Go to this website you can see all of the different rat sizes and mouse sizes and it should help you alot.
Please don’t fee live though ok, Live mice and rats CAN kill your snake with ONE bite to the spine. It is more humane to the mouse/rat and it is safer for both snake and rodent to feed frozen.

Good Luck
ADD: Follow this link and scroll down, this is a Ball python and it was done by a mouse. I can only imagine what would have happened had it been a rat. http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://bellsouthpwp.net/j/b/jbuncc/dont%2520feed%2520live1.JPG&imgrefurl=http://bellsouthpwp.net/j/b/jbuncc/feeding.htm&h=480&w=640&sz=38&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=K3ZY7eM5g7wSHM:&tbnh=103&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3DWhat%2Bcan%2Bhappen%2Bwhen%2Byou%2Bfeed%2Ba%2Bsnake%2Blive%2Bfood%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN
from my understanding, live food has more nutrients. so what i do is pinch the back of the neck of the mouse for my cali king snake. i do it fast and it breaks the neck. then i just feed it to my snake. easy as that.
I USED TO FEED PINKYS ON MY NEWBORN CARPET PYTHON
Pinky rats are absolutely tiny hairless rats. I’ve had any of my balls feeding on them in just a few months, but individual snakes are different.
I’m assuming he’s on mice, so you can easily judge how he will take a rat by the size of the mouse he’s feeding on. My rule of thumb is a simple no food more than twice the girth of the snake, when on small prey.
Ps. Feed frozen!
ok first off!!! ‘
what size if ur ball python?
if the mid section is bigger then the pinky its self its time to move up to a bigger baby
pinkys are new born rats up to 3 weeks i do belive
